Dove Pistachio Cream & Magnolia

Pistachio Cream and Magnolia.  Not a common scent combination, but Dove decided to combine them.  Oh.my.goodness.  Why is this now just being created?!

Is it possible to be in love with soap or shower gel?  Because I am madly in love with this stuff.  Dove makes nice shower gels…well, they are actually more like creams….  Rich, moisturizing, smooth, and they lather so well!  I’ve loved them for as long as I can remember, but then they launched this scent.  And as good as it smells in the shower cream, it smells even BETTER in the bar soap.  Both now reside in my shower.

Now, shall we talk about the actual scent?  It’s a scent I could literally smell for hours on end.  It’s something I want in everything…perfume, deodorant, and lotion.  It’s that good.  The scent is a creamy, candied pistachio with undertones of a very feminine magnolia scent…borderline powdery.  Not in your face, not heady, and definitely not cloying and headache-inducing.  It’s the perfect sweet meets floral scent.  Gorgeous, girly, and luxurious.  It even feels luxurious.  I wish they made an entire line of this stuff…..haircare, perfume, lotion…the works.  Dove, if you’re reading and I’m certain you’re not…please don’t ever stop making this scent.  In fact, make MORE.

I picked mine up at Target, but any drugstore that carries Dove has it I’m sure.  It’s super cheap too…I got a combo pack at Target(2 bottles)for 7 or 8 bucks.  The bottles are decent sized and a little goes a long way.  Pistachio Cream, I’m crushin’ on you.  I love both notes(pistachio & magnolia)on their own, but together?  Pure heaven.

My little miracle drugstore find: Pepta-Bright

You know when you find a product that seems magical?  You really have no idea what exactly it does, but you can definitely tell a difference when you don’t use it.  I found this little gem about a month ago and wanted to share its magic with you all.  Welcome to the world of Pepta-Bright.  It’s made by Indeed Labs and I found mine at Walgreens.  Here’s the link:  http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/indeed-laboratories-pepta-bright/ID=prod6235415-product

I found this little bit of information about it too:  “From the makers of Nanoblur and Snoxin, Pepta-Bright is an intense brightening treatment. A cream-serum to help improve skin clarity whilst diminishing the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.”

I can’t speak about all of those things, but I can say this stuff is a little miracle in a tube.  It’s a serum/cream that I put on before my moisturizer.  It makes my skin look brighter, more awake, healthy, and glowing.  It makes you appear as though you’ve had 10 hours of sleep when you haven’t.  LOVE, love, love this little jewel.  I used it a few times, then didn’t just out of forgetting…  I noticed something was different…not quite as bright.  No pun intended.  SO, I knew it had to be this serum.  I’ve been using it daily since and it’s something I never want to be without.  I wouldn’t call it cheap, but it’s certainly not the price of some of the high-end brands.  Right in between high-end and drugstore.

It appears to be a thin lotion, but once you apply it…it takes on the feeling of a serum.  Cooling, smooth, and silky.  It’s not tacky or sticky at all.  My skin looks refreshed immediately.  Sleep does a body good, but when you don’t have much…this will be your savior.  You may feel tired, but your skin will be gorgeous and dewy.  Pick this up next time you’re in Walgreens.  If you don’t have a store near you, the words “submit order” are calling your name.

The Skinny on Cleansing Oils and Balms

ORIGINS CLEANSING OILCLEANSING BALM

What’s all this hype about cleansing oils and cleansing balms, you ask?  I asked, I tried, and I love.  If you read any beauty blogs or watch Youtube videos, you will hear others say they don’t want to use something oily to cleanse their face.  That was where they hesitated.  I, personally, LOVED the idea of using an oil on my face because old man winter was taking a toll on my skin causing dryness, just as he does every year.

My first experience with cleansing oil was with Origins Clean Energy.  You may read more about it here:  http://www.origins.com/product/3853/12191/Skincare/Daily-Essentials/Cleansers/Clean-Energy/Gentle-cleansing-oil/index.tmpl.  Can we just talk for a minute about how much I love Origins?!  I love going in my local store.  It smells amazing, feels relaxing, and their customer service has always been superb.  Needless to say, I get sucked in every time I go in…  I walk out with a huge bag thinking, “what all did I just buy?”  Origins really deserves a post all of their own, so I will stop there.  If you don’t have a local store, you may order online.  I’ve had great experiences with that, as well.  Plus, they always give out nice freebies or samples!

Ok, so….this oil.  I bought it and immediately fell in love.  The smell reminds me of an expensive spa somewhere in the French Riviera.  I’ve never been to one, but that’s what I imagine they would smell like.  It’s calming, doesn’t burn my eyes, and literally dissolves all of my makeup in seconds.  I love using this at night because of the relaxing smell.  I find my skin and myself saying, “aahhhhhh that’s better…”  You can wipe this off with a dry flannel, but I prefer a damp washcloth.  I don’t care for the way flannels feel on my face.  It doesn’t foam, but your face feels clean afterwards.  However, it doesn’t feel stripped or dry like some cleansers can make them feel.  It’s also really moisturizing given that it’s an oil, but you don’t feel greasy.  Just plump, hydrated, clean, and relaxed.  Dear Origins, please don’t ever stop making this cleanser.  Love, Shana.

Next in line is a cleansing balm.  It’s cheaper than the Origins cleanser and I really love it.  My wallet loves it too.  It’s made by Boots and is called Botanics Organic Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm.  I get mine at Target, but you can also buy it online here:  http://www.target.com/p/boots-botanics-organic-hot-cloth-cleansing-balm-2-3-oz/-/A-14497808#prodSlot=medium_1_24&term=boots%20botanics.  It, too, has a very relaxing spa like smell that’s borderline lemony.  I scoop some out and rub it into my skin kind of like moisturizer.  It’s oily just like the cleansing oil, but it dissolves all of my makeup in seconds.  I must note…I use these two as my second cleanse.  I wash my face first with Lacura facial wash, but that too, deserves a post of its own.  Then, I follow with one of these.  I have used them on their own, but the Lacura works better at removing my eye makeup and I swear there’s something in it that makes my eyelashes grow.  Anyhow, the balm…  It’s amazing, cheap, and worth a try.  Some say it’s too oily, but I love it.  It’s just the right amount of oil…not a greasy mess, but yet enough to be really moisturizing.  Again, I am left with hydrated and smooth skin.

I wasn’t sure what the hype was all about when I first heard about these kinds of cleansers, but being the product junkie that I am…I had to jump on the bandwagon.  I will continue to buy them both because I truly love them equally and I really look forward to using one of them every night.  Those are the kinds of products you want in your life…ones that excite you, make you happy, and simply make you feel relieved just by grabbing the jar.  For silky skin, give them a go….  Some run from the word, “oil”, but I happen to embrace it in the winter.  Dryness be gone, hello gorgeous and glowing skin.  Let me know what you think if you try them!

Revlon Haute Pink, I am in LOVE with you.

You know those rare finds you get at the drugstore?  Those things you walk by a million times, ignoring?  Well sometimes, those very things wind up being some of the greatest gems of your stash.  I am in love with blush.  There, I said it.  There’s something about silky, pigmented, girly, shimmering blush that makes me swoon.  This is also probably the reason I have so many.  A recent addition to my blush family(collection)is a beauty from Revlon.  Scary in the pan, but so insanely gorgeous on the cheeks.  I know that I walked by this a million times, paying zero attention to it.  However, when one of my favorite UK based beauty bloggers wore this in one of her posts, I had to have it.  Her name is Lily Pebbles and you may find her blog here: http://www.lilypebbles.co.uk

So, after that massive intro…  Let’s chat about this blush.  It’s Haute Pink from Revlon.  This is the new powder blush from Revlon and while I only have the one shade; I can tell you that Revlon really brings it with these blushes.  There are 8 shades in the line and I will definitely be trying the others.  Haute Pink is a stunner.  It gives me that “I’ve just been out in the cold air and my cheeks are rosy” look.  Gorgeous, natural flush.  BUT, you really need to use a light hand with this one as it’s super pigmented.  It’s perfect and the more I use it, the more I love it.  I can’t stop reaching for this even though my blush collection is quite massive.  I always say that I need options, choices, variety….  Love how I rationalize having a huge makeup stash?!  Read more about this beauty here:  http://www.revlon.com/Revlon-Home/Products/Face/Blush/Revlon-Powder-Blush.aspx.  What you really need to do is grab your keys and head to your nearest drugstore.  It’s less than 10 bucks and it will make your day.  Guaranteed.

Lip Gloss Obsession

Left to right:  Butter Gloss in Cherry Pie, Glam Gloss in Beat Goes On, Glam Gloss in Paint The Town, and Xtreme Shine Lip Cream in Spicy.

Buuuuuuuuttttter gloss.  This is the sister to the Butter Lip Balm and Butter Lipstick also by NYX.  This gloss is a creamy consistency, it’s not sticky, it’s not gloopy, and it’s certainly not thin or watery.  You know, those lip glosses that are gone from your lips before you even get the cap back on?  What’s the point, I ask?  No pun intended, but these truly are buttery.  This gloss is silky, but not slippery.  I got Cherry Pie and it’s a great true red.  As you know, I sort of am a fan of red anything.  It can be worn over lipstick or pigmented enough to wear alone. This wore well on me, too.  Not well to the point that you can eat and it’s still there…but well for gloss. Huge thumbs up and I will be trying other colors!  Oh yeah, and it smells slightly fruity.  However, I can’t smell or taste anything while wearing it.

Glam Gloss…these babies are so shiny and pretty.  They remind me of liquid diamonds.  Doesn’t that even sound pretty?!  They are gorgeous.  I wouldn’t say the wear is as good or long as the Butter Gloss, but I love how sparkly they are.  Not in the sense that you look like a walking disco ball, but like liquid diamonds dripping from your lips.  Someone would say, “ooh la la…look at that sparkle!”  Ok, I really have no idea if anyone would say that and that was just creepy, but you get the point…  They are gorgeous.  They have a thinner consistency, but they aren’t sticky or gloopy.  The smell of them is somewhere between plastic(I’m not going to lie)and just plain typical lipstick.  BUT, they are so pretty that I just deal with it.  I can’t really smell or taste anything while they are on.  I have worn them alone, but prefer to wear them over lipstick.  I have Beat Goes On and Paint The Town and they add just the right amount of “oomph“.  Will definitely try other colors.

Xtreme Shine, I love thee…  Let me count thy ways.  This is perfect.  It’s the right amount of gloss, but thick enough to be almost like melted lipstick.  Does that make sense?  Not thin like gloss, but not as thick as lipstick…  They are creamy, SUPER pigmented, and just really nice.  The wear isn’t as good as a lipstick per say, but they are so nice to just throw on.  They are the perfect “in between” of lipstick and lip gloss.  If they had a baby, this would be it.  I have worn it alone and over lipstick just to have that extra shine.   I have Spicy, which is a muted true red.  Gorgeous.  Sassy.  Fun.  I highly recommend these if you haven’t tried them.  To me, they just have that typical lipstick smell.  But, I don’t smell or taste anything while wearing it. Sensing a theme here…  Just try them; I promise you will love them.  I am definitely picking up more of these.

I got mine at Ulta, but you can also order online at http://www.nyxcosmetics.com.  Try them out and let me know what you think!  I could seriously have a love affair with NYX, but that’s a whole different topic and blog post.  *smooches*

Revamp!

Hi friends.  I’ve done some thinking and I’ve decided to revamp this blog of mine.  I started it with beauty in mind, but wound up writing mostly about life.  There’s a bit of beauty sprinkled in, but now I’m going to do the opposite.  Mostly beauty with life sprinkled in.  I’m going to start taking pictures of things I love or NOT love and do reviews on them.  My obsession with makeup is unreal, untreated, and financially growing by the minute.  The more I try, the more I buy.  The more I love, the more I WANT to love.  Red lipstick.  My vice in this world. It’s also my claim to fame. I have 20 tubes, I’d say and yet I yearn for more. I.must.try.every.shade.of.red.ever.created.  I’m out of control but hey, at least I will look good in the process. Stay tuned!

New Year’s Resolutions and the Lip Gloss that Rocked My World

Do you make resolutions for the new year? I know many that do, but I always find I break them before I can even think of what they should be. Ok, not really… I just prefer to make small goals for myself throughout the year as it unfolds. So far, this is what I have set for myself:

1. Saving money for school
2. Getting back into running
3. Lose weight (goes along with number 2)
4. Doing one thing this year that really pushes me out of my comfort zone
5. Taking as many classes I can while working full time
6. Getting a better grasp on time management
7. Learning how to shoot and edit videos. Edit, especially. I don’t know why this is so hard for me
8. Change the look of my blog, write more entries, not forgetting I have it, and talk more about beauty on here
9. Attending the Mary Kay seminar this year
10. Seeing myself for who I really am and improve on the qualities I lack

I have no idea if I will do any of these things, but they are definitely something I intend to work on. Last but not least, I recently used a lip gloss that rocked my socks. It’s expensive, it smells like roses(Love!!), and it’s the perfect consistency. It’s the Christian Dior Rose Lip Balm. It comes in this little white pot that you may fancy seeing on a vanity or dressing table back in 1960. It’s gorgeous and it’s heaven in a jar. Truly. I am a lip balm and lipstick fanatic. BUT, I will say this is the greatest lip balm that’s ever graced my lips. I bought mine from Sephora.com It’s perfection in every sense of the word. Try it if you haven’t…heck, make it one of your resolutions 😉 Hope you all are well. Be well, be beautiful, be you.

Morning.

Everyday when I leave my house, I pray for others and myself. It has become a habit, I suppose, but a good one to have. Pray for what, you ask? Protection, guidance, and the ability to bless and be blessed. Yesterday, I was blessed by a co-worker. We were discussing something specific and she told me, “just be yourself, be professional of course, which you always are…and then just be yourself.” It’s amazing how it feels when you realize someone else has more faith in you than you do in yourself. For the most part, I would say I have a good amount of confidence. But even so, it’s so nice to have little reminders like this. She completely turned my day around even though she didn’t realize it. Moral of the story is: Be kind to those around you…God knows there’s not enough kindness in this world anymore. Also, if you believe in someone…tell them. You have no idea the difference it can truly make not only in their day, but in their heart. Be the best you, you can be today. I believe in you.

My journey

No excuses this time about where I’ve been or why I always forsake this blog. I love it, though you’d certainly never know that from my lack of posts. When I started my blog, it was going to be about all things beauty related. Instead, it’s about life. I like that so much better because life consists of everything. Therefore, any and all things can be covered here.

This year, I gave myself the greatest gift I have ever given myself. I swallowed all of my fear and returned to school. I thought I would fall on my face quite honestly. Not certain why I felt that way..maybe just the fear of the unknown. Maybe I was afraid of letting myself down. I enrolled in April and ever since then, I’ve had an entirely different outlook on myself and my life.

I could write a novel on the university I attend, so I will spare you the details. I will simply say that it’s the best school I’ve ever been to. It’s the answer to what I was missing and what I needed in my life. It has given me a renewed sense of faith in myself and countless open windows of opportunity. Can’t put a price on any of that.

When you get into the habit of challenging yourself, you quickly realize what you’re made of. My fear of returning turned into a gift. If any of you are thinking of going back to school; I encourage you to follow through. You will find your purpose, you will discover what you are capable of, and you will be taking strides to making your dreams a reality.

I can’t wait to see where my journey takes me. It’s an amazing thing. It’s a lot of hard work, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

If I don’t post again soon, Merry Christmas to you all. I love and appreciate you.

Hello.

Funny how that one simple word can open up an entire world of conversation.  Normally, when I sit down to write my blog posts…I have an idea or thought process in mind.  Today, I have nothing.  I will tell you a story for my lack of thoughts this evening…

I met someone this week.  This person reminded me a lot of my past self.  Not a form of my past self that I loved then or now, especially. Self, nonetheless. It’s amazing how when you take a step forward and away from your old self, you can clearly see what you were and were not. I still cringe when I picture that Shana, but it’s being her for awhile that created the Shana I am today. During some of the hardest moments in my life; I remember hoping and praying for someone or something to bless my life. If even for a second. To smile was a relief. To smile and really *feel* it. I’ve come a long way from that path but because of it, I can now offer advice to those I encounter that are still walking it. They say you live and learn. I say both are a choice. It’s your choice to truly live and to do something meaningful with your life. And, it’s certainly your choice to learn from your past. Live the wisdom you wished you had had then. Not to say I have all the answers…that’s so far from the truth. I can only share my wisdom from my journey thus far. I spoke to this person as though I was speaking to my past self. Never think too highly of yourself that you can’t help someone else…it just isn’t right. Don’t be afraid to uncover your own dirt if it’s going to help another soul. If you were in the trenches, you would want someone to help you. The moral of the story is this; even if the sight of someone reminds you of a you that you never want to re-visit; don’t be afraid to share that version of yourself with that person. It’s the, “see, I’m pretty imperfect too” moments that show you what you’re really made of, shows that person they are never alone, and shows you how far you’ve come. Sweet diamond in the rough, shine on.
